A Magical Night

Fancy some hotdogs?
Ah the winter nights. The nights where we hide in our cosy homes watching bad TVs. One day last week I decided to do something different. I thought maybe I should take a stroll and see what happens to London after dark in winter.

My plan was to start from the Senate House Library and walk down south to the Waterloo Bridge, and then head eastwards along Thames via Southbank to finish at St. Paul's Cathedral. The whole journey shouldn't take more than 1 hour.

I ended up spending 4-5 hours strolling in the winter cold.

It was a very rewarding experience. Okay the night was very cold — below 5 degrees and very windy (by London standard). But the streets were quiet and very peaceful; a great break away from the usual hustle and bustle of London. During my journey on Southbank — one of the busiest areas during the day — I was alone by myself most of the time. I did, however, bump into two strangers and exchanged some stories.

What did I find from the walk? That winter nights do not have to be boring. There are a lot of hidden sights to be discovered after dark, and I am definitely doing this again. Make sure to keep yourself warm though, especially if you're taking pictures as you'll spend a lot of time stationary. The last thing you want is to catch a cold afterwards!
